Sun Break Wines was born from a simple but persistent curiosity: how many different truths can a single vineyard tell? I discovered the answer in the breezy volcanic slopes of the Willamette Valley’s Eola–Amity Hills.
Before founding the winery in 2018, I spent years apprenticing across the Willamette Valley, learning the varied rhythms of the vineyard and the cellar. And I became particularly captivated by how fermentation style could alter a wine’s expression—how 100% whole cluster could bring a wine upward (Ariane Pinot Noir), adding aromatic lift and structure, while 100% destemmed fruit revealed a softer, more elegant side (Colette Pinot Noir). And somewhere between the two lives a third exquisite cuvée, with compelling aspects of both (Marie-Paule Pinot Noir).
Most wineries choose one stylistic path. I chose to devote myself to mastering all three.
Beyond Pinot Noir, we continued our spirit of curiosity through exquisite, bright, Chardonnay and blanc de noir (white) Pinot, méthode Champenoise sparkling wine (coming soon), cider, and small-batch vermouths crafted with organic and no-spray botanicals grown or foraged in the region.
For the Pinot Noir, all six clones/blocks from the vineyard are used, a key factor in the wines’ quality. The vineyard is dry farmed, and no herbicides or synthetic fertilizers or pesticides are used.
Our J Marie Chardonnay from Royer Vineyard, Eola-Amity Hills/Willamette Valley is picked early for a bright and aromatic style with citrus, white flower, and white peach flavors and notes of struck-flight minerality. Lemon curd richness lingers on the finish. The vineyard is also dry farmed, and no herbicides or synthetic fertilizers or pesticides are used.
